Farmers Feed Us

Farmers Feed US is an innovative – and interactive – communications platform that makes real connections between consumers and today’s farmers. It puts a familiar face on the hard-working men and women who produce our food, while building consumer trust, and setting the stage for long-term outreach with consumers, who today are generations removed from the farm.

Introduced by the Center for Food Integrity in 2009, Farmers Feed US uses earned media, social media, advertising and retail promotions to direct consumers to a website where featured farmers from their state invite them to register for free groceries for a year, quiz them with fun farm trivia, and invite them to tour their farms and meet their families in 90-second, values-based videos. The farmers featured in Farmers Feed US actively demonstrate that while food production has changed, farmers still operate with passion and a sense of responsibility
that today’s consumers expect.

Since the first impressive Farmers Feed US campaign in Ohio in 2009, nine states have launched a Farmers Feed US sweepstakes, while three Mid-Atlantic states launched their own in Jan. 2012.

Survey data from consumers who “opt in” for more information from Farmers Feed US clearly shows the campaign is enhancing perceptions of farmers and agriculture. For example, in Michigan, 95 percent either strongly or somewhat agreed that featured farmers were approachable, knowledgeable and “the kind of people I want producing my food.” Nearly 94 percent either strongly or somewhat agreed that their perception of agriculture in the state improved following a visit to the Farmers Feed US site.
